Admissions for Pre-K
In New York City, children begin pre-K in the calendar year they turn four. Current 3-K families must submit an application as well to be considered for placement at PS20.
The Pre-K application period for the 2026-27 school year will open on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 and close on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Applications can be submitted online with MySchools, by phone 718-935-2009 or in person at the District 13 Family Welcome Center located at 415 89th Street in Bay Ridge.
Initial offers are made by the NYC Public Schools and not PS20.
We offer three (3) full-day Pre-K classes for a total of 54 seats.
Each Pre-K classroom has a maximum capacity of 18 students with a lead instructor and a paraprofessional βco-teacherβ.
Offers to PS20 are made by the NYC Public Schools (not PS20) based upon a childβs position on the priority list below:
Children who currently attend 3-K at PS20
Children who live in the zone with a sibling at PS20.
All other zoned children.
Children who live in District 13 with a sibling at the school.
Children who live outside of District 13 with a sibling at the school.
All other children living in District 13.
All other children.
NOTE: We are a participant in the Diversity in Admissions initiative that sets aside 40% of the seats for low-income families or those in temporary housing.
